Olares 1.12.0: Deliver a Powerful, Intuitive, and Secure Personal Cloud

We are pleased to announce the general availability of Olares 1.12.0. This release represents a significant step forward, offering our most robust and streamlined update yet. We’ve focused on delivering advanced resource control, expanded system functionality, a more intuitive experience, and stronger security — all shaped by your valuable feedback.
What is Olares?
Olares is an open-source personal cloud operating system designed to empower users with local AI capabilities and private, self-hosted services. It allows you to transform your hardware into a powerful AI personal cloud for running cutting-edge AI models, managing personal data, automating your home, and hosting decentralized apps.
What’s new in 1.12.0?
Multi-node & multimode GPU management
Olares 1.12 brings a powerful upgrade to how GPU resources are recognized, allocated, and managed across your cluster.
- We’ve extended the CUDA support to version 12.9, ensuring you have access to the latest advancements in GPU computing.
- You can now manage GPUs from different nodes in a unified interface. Multiple GPU modes are available, including time-slicing, memory-slicing, and app exclusive. This provides granular control over your most valuable compute resources. See GPU usage for more details.

Secure your data with built-in Backup & Restore
The long-awaited, native Backup & Restore feature is finally here. Olares 1.12 lets you create full or incremental backups of your crucial directories and Wise application in just a few clicks.

You can schedule automatic backups on local, external, or network storage (including Olares Space, AWS S3, and Tencent COS), and restore your system from any point in time. See Backup and restore for more details.
A smarter, streamlined Settings experience
We’ve completely redesigned the Settings interface. The new layout features cleaner categories and a more intuitive structure, including dedicated sections for the new Backup & Restore, VPN, Network, and GPU.
This redesign reduces clutter and organizes controls logically, so you can spend less time searching and more time customizing your system. From daily tweaks to advanced setups, the new Settings panel puts powerful control right at your fingertips. See Settings for more details.

Simplified access: The .local domain retired
Accessing your Olares apps just got simpler and more reliable.
Previously, you needed two different addresses to reach your Olares apps:
| Scenario | Old URL |
| Local access | app.local.<username>.olares.com |
| Public access | app.<username>.olares.com |
It worked—but it was clunky. Remembering two different domains was easy to get wrong, and .local domains didn’t always resolve reliably across devices or routers. In 1.12, we removed the special .local domain. Everything now resolves through a single, unified address: app.<username>.olares.com. No more confusion about which URL to use. See Manage VPN for more details.
Note:
Make sure you have enabled the VPN on LarePass to resolve the URL to local properly.
Dashboard: Expanded for deeper Insights and control
Olares 1.12 introduced a much enhanced Dashboard that goes far beyond the basics. In addition to CPU, memory, and disk, you now get dedicated, real-time insights into GPU and network usage right from the home screen. Each resource now has its own detailed view with key metrics like GPU utilization, power draw, network connections, traffic, and more.

This new level of visibility allows you to pinpoint performance bottlenecks, monitor resource-hungry applications, and better understand your cluster’s operations. See more in Dashboard documentation.
Unified identity management with LLDAP
Olares 1.12 introduces unified identity powered by LLDAP, a modern, standards-based authentication system. It replaces the legacy token mechanism by Kubersphere and establishes a single, centralized source of truth for all your Olares accounts.
With built-in two-factor authentication (TOTP) and a unified place to manage credentials, LLDAP enables seamless reuse across Olares services and third-party applications. More importantly, by consolidating user identity, LLDAP lays the groundwork for a truly integrated experience — such as powering the new, intelligent notification system that delivers in-time, targeted alerts tailored to all your account activities.
This unified framework simplifies onboarding, strengthens authentication, and sets the stage for deeper integration across the entire Olares ecosystem.
Core infrastructure upgrades: A rock-solid foundation
We’ve performed a comprehensive upgrade of the entire core infrastructure stack, including Kubernetes, etcd, and containerd.
- Kubernetes: 1.32.3
- etcd: 3.5.18
containerd: 2.1.3.- Helm dependency: 3.18.4.
These upgrades ensure greater long-term stability, improved performance, and enhanced security across your entire cluster. You can find all the technical details in the full pull request.
Other enhancements
We also packed this release with other enhancements focused on performance and reliability:
- Reduced memory footprint: We’ve significantly lowered the memory usage per user, making Olares even more efficient.
- Multi-admin for multiple-users: As the initial owner, you can now create multiple admins for more flexible team and permission management.
- Enhanced Market: The Market has been upgraded with the search function, a new app category scheme, and better status feedback during app installation.
- Refactored core file-service APIs: This means faster, more reliable file transfers, eliminating rare timeout issues during heavy use.
- Improved upgrade process: We’ve redesigned the Olares update process to ensure seamless upgrades between consecutive versions, guaranteeing cluster continuity.
- eBPF powered observability: Integration with eBPF provides enhanced system observability and performance diagnostics for power users.
How to upgrade to Olares 1.12?
Unfortunately, due to major system refactoring, Olares 1.11.x cannot be directly upgraded to 1.12. You will need to uninstall Olares 1.11.x before installing version 1.12. All future releases after 1.12 will support seamless upgrades.
⚠️ Important:
- Starting from version 1.12, all updates are managed via the LarePass app. Please ensure you’ve updated LarePass to v1.3.122 or later from your app store.
- Be sure to back up your important data before uninstalling.
To install Olares 1.12:
- On your Linux terminal, run the following command to uninstall:
bash olares-uninstall.sh
- After uninstallation completes, install the latest version of Olares 1.12 by running:
curl -fsSL https://cn.olares.sh | bash -
